Praise Teams

The Praise Teams at DOCC serve on a rotating scheduled basis so that no person is onstage week in and week out. We believe that it is vital to a person's spiritual health that they have the chance to experience and participate in worship without being an onstage leader. The person that we are looking for in Praise Team will reflect the following attitudes and actions:

A person who reflects Christ:

  • Consistent walk with Christ - By that, I do not mean a morally perfect person because we are all in journey. We do look for someone who is daily striving to be Christ-like in their life. Where you go and what you do in your "off-time" is a consideration.
  • Team member - On the vocal teams, we are ALL about the team and not individuals. What each individual does affects and reflects on all the team, good and bad. Everything is done with the goal of worshiping God and leading others to worship God first. Personal tastes and choices are always subordinate to what the group needs.
  • Willing to take musical suggestions - We do a wide variety of musical styles and they call for adjustments in vocal production. You must be able and willing to make those adjustments when called on.
  • Each vocalist should be actively involved in a bible study or small group.

A capable singer:

  • Skilled - Not necessarily a professional, but the Praise Team member must be skilled enough to add to the whole. A person needs to have solid pitch control. A person needs to be able to adjust their tone color or vibrato as required by the director.
  • Communicator - A high percentage of communication comes through the visual. Does your visual demeanor encourage people to worship while not calling attention to yourself?
  • Practicer - A person who is willing and able to learn texts and notes outside the rehearsal.
  • Rehearser - I expect you to attend 100% of the rehearsals (otherwise I wouldn't come). I don't keep roll, not because I don't care, but because I fully expect you to be there.
  • Practiced listener - Actively listening for blend within a small group of vocalists.
  • Spiritually motivated - Would you be at Double Oak if you didn't get to sing on a Praise Team?
